About This Tour
Four places. Four completely different faces of Portugal — all in a single day, with a group small enough to actually experience them. This is one of our most requested itineraries, and it's not hard to see why.
Fátima — the pilgrimage site that draws millions each year and holds a very particular place in the Portuguese soul. Batalha — a monastery so extraordinary that UNESCO called it one of the great achievements of Gothic and Manueline architecture in the world. Nazaré — a clifftop fishing village above an ocean that generates some of the biggest surfable waves ever recorded. And Óbidos — a medieval walled town so well-preserved it feels like you stepped through a portal, where every visit ends the same way: with a ginjinha (Portugal's cherry liqueur) served in an edible chocolate cup.
Maximum 8 guests. Real guide. Real stories. Your ECO travelling friend in Lusitan lands.

Tour Itinerary

Pickup — Central Lisbon
Early start from the Marquês de Pombal area in our 8-seat air-conditioned minivan. Exact coordinates are sent via WhatsApp after booking.
~09:30 — Stop 1
Fátima Sanctuary (1 hour guided)
Visit the Fátima Sanctuary — one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage sites in the world. Your guide explains the story of the 1917 apparitions to three shepherd children and the extraordinary series of events that followed. The vast esplanade, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, and the Chapel of the Apparitions create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Portugal. Entry to the Sanctuary grounds is free and open to everyone.
~10:45 — Stop 2
Batalha Monastery (45min guided)
Just 20 minutes from Fátima, the Batalha Monastery is UNESCO-listed as one of the finest examples of Gothic and Manueline architecture in the world. Built to fulfil a vow made by King João I before the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385, its Founder's Chapel and Unfinished Chapels are extraordinary. Your guide explains the military and religious significance of this extraordinary building. Exterior guided visit included; interior entry optional (approx €6).
~12:00 — Stop 3
Nazaré — Clifftop & Lunch (1h 15min)
Drive to the Atlantic coast and up to Sítio da Nazaré, the clifftop 110 metres above the famous beach and fishing village. The guide explains the geology of the underwater canyon that produces some of the biggest surfable waves ever recorded (up to 30+ metres in winter). Free time for lunch in Nazaré — excellent seafood restaurants on the seafront at good prices.
~14:00 — Stop 4
Óbidos — Medieval Walled Town (1 hour)
Drive south to Óbidos — a medieval walled town so beautifully preserved that it is sometimes called "the Wedding Present" (King João II gave it to his queen as a wedding gift in 1282, and it remained royal property until 1834). Walk the cobblestoned Rua Direita through the whitewashed village, visit the town walls, and — the unmissable finale — taste ginjinha served in a small edible chocolate cup. The cherry liqueur and the chocolate cup together are one of Portugal's most beloved small pleasures. Included in your tour price.
~17:00 — Return
Return to Lisbon (arrive ~17:45)
Return drive south to central Lisbon. Drop-off at the original departure point or a nearby central location.

Your ECO Travelling Friend In Lusitan Lands
We keep groups at 8 people maximum — a fraction of the footprint of a coach tour. The ginjinha you taste in Óbidos comes from a local producer who has been making it for generations. The guide who tells you the story of Batalha is from the region. This is the way we believe travel should work.
What Travellers Say
★★★★★
"Four amazing places in one day and I never felt rushed. Batalha was a revelation — I had no idea Portugal had such incredible medieval architecture. Óbidos was beautiful and the ginjinha in a chocolate cup was exactly as good as everyone says. Brilliant guide, brilliant day."
★★★★★
"An exceptional day. I'm not religious but Fátima was genuinely moving — our guide explained everything so well. The Batalha Monastery might be the most beautiful building I've seen in Portugal. And Óbidos at the end was like walking into a fairy tale. The small group made everything feel personal and relaxed."
★★★★★
"I chose this over the Sintra tours because I wanted to see a different side of Portugal. So glad I did. Batalha was stunning, Nazaré from the clifftop was incredible, and Óbidos was the perfect final stop. The ginjinha chocolate cup is mandatory. Book this tour!"
Frequently Asked Questions
What is ginjinha and is the tasting included?
Ginjinha (or ginja) is a traditional Portuguese sour cherry liqueur — one of the most iconic drinks in the country, made by steeping ginjinha cherries in aguardente (a grape spirit) with sugar. In Óbidos, it's served in a small edible chocolate cup which you eat after drinking. This tasting is included in your tour price. The combination of the liqueur's sourness and the chocolate's sweetness is one of those genuinely memorable Portuguese experiences.
Is Batalha Monastery interior entry included?
The guided exterior visit is included. Interior entry (approx €6) is optional and can be purchased on the day. The interior contains the magnificent Founder's Chapel and the famous Unfinished Chapels — remarkable for anyone with an interest in Gothic and Manueline architecture. Given the pace of the day, we recommend deciding on the morning based on your energy levels.
How long do we spend in Óbidos?
Approximately 1 hour — enough to walk the main cobblestoned street (Rua Direita), sample the ginjinha, visit the town walls, browse the small craft shops, and take in the medieval atmosphere. Óbidos is a compact village and very walkable in an hour.
Can I book this as a private tour?
Yes — every tour is available as a fully private experience for your group, whether it's a couple, a family, or a larger group. Message us on WhatsApp to discuss dates and private pricing.
What is the cancellation policy?
