About This Tour
Most Sintra day trips take you to the palace and bring you straight home. This one goes further — into the wine country almost nobody visits, to the edge of Europe itself, and along a coastline that belongs to postcards. This is the Sintra experience with depth.
You'll skip the queue at Pena Palace and explore the extraordinary exterior and terraced gardens with a guide who knows the history, the symbolism, and the stories behind every tile. Then free time in Sintra village — narrow cobblestone streets, local pastry shops, the kind of corners that take your breath away. After that: Cabo da Roca, where Portugal ends and the Atlantic begins, the westernmost point of continental Europe. Then to a working Colares wine estate, where the sommelier takes you through three regional wines that almost nobody outside Portugal has heard of — one of the most underrated wine regions in the world. And Cascais to close the day, a elegant coastal town where you can sit by the ocean, wander the market, or simply breathe.
Maximum 8 guests. Real guide. Real stories. Your ECO travelling friend in Lusitan lands.

Tour Itinerary
08:30 — Departure
Pickup — Central Lisbon
We collect you from Marquês de Pombal area in our 8-seat air-conditioned minivan. Exact coordinates are sent via WhatsApp after booking.
~09:30 — Stop 1
Pena Palace — Sintra (1h 30min)
Skip-the-line entry to the exterior and terraced gardens of Pena Palace — one of the most photographed palaces in Europe. Your guide brings the history to life: the romantic king who built it, the Moorish and Manueline influences, and the extraordinary views over the Serra de Sintra. Palace interior entry is optional (approx €14, payable on site).
~11:15 — Stop 2
Sintra Village — UNESCO Historic Centre (45min free)
Free time to wander Sintra's narrow cobblestone streets, stop at a local pastry shop for a travesseiro (the local sweet), and browse the independent shops and alleys of this extraordinary UNESCO-listed village.
~12:15 — Stop 3
Cabo da Roca — Europe's Westernmost Point (30min)
The dramatic clifftop where Luís de Camões wrote "Here ends the land, here begins the sea." Stand at the edge of continental Europe, with nothing between you and the Americas except the Atlantic. One of the most quietly powerful spots in Portugal.
~13:00 — Stop 4
Colares Wine Estate — Guided Tasting (1 hour)
A sommelier-guided tasting of three regional Colares wines at a working estate. Colares is one of the oldest wine-producing regions in Portugal — the sandy Atlantic soil means the vines were never destroyed by phylloxera, unlike almost everywhere else in Europe. Expect something genuinely unusual and delicious. Light snacks accompany the tasting.
~14:30 — Stop 5
Cascais — Free Time (1h 30min)
Arrive in elegant Cascais — a coastal town that manages to feel both royal and relaxed. Explore the seafront promenade, browse the market, find a terrace for lunch (own cost), or simply sit and watch the Atlantic. We can recommend the best spots based on your preferences.
~17:00 — Return
Return to Lisbon (arrive ~17:45)
Return drive along the coast to central Lisbon. Drop-off at the original departure point or a nearby central location.

What Travellers Say
★★★★★
"The best day of our entire trip. Dyego made Sintra feel like a secret only we knew. The wine tasting at Colares was the highlight — wines I'd never heard of that I'm now obsessed with. The group was tiny, the pace was perfect, and nothing felt rushed. Worth every euro."
★★★★★
"The Sintra day trip was the highlight of our entire Portugal trip. Well-organised, relaxed pace, and our guide had an amazing sense of humour. The wine estate stop was a bonus we didn't expect — truly special. Highly recommend!"
★★★★★
"Booked via WhatsApp at 10pm, confirmed by midnight. The whole experience was effortless. Cabo da Roca was incredible — standing at the edge of Europe with just eight people in the group felt very different from what a bus tour would have been. Cascais at the end was perfect."
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this tour include Pena Palace interior entry?
The price includes the Pena Palace exterior and gardens ticket (skip-the-line). The palace interior is optional at approximately €14 extra, payable on the day. Most guests find the gardens and exterior — the views, the architecture, the terraces — more than enough. Ask your guide on the day.
What wines are tasted at the Colares estate?
Three regional Colares wines — typically a white and two reds. Colares is one of the oldest wine-producing regions in Portugal, where vines grow in sandy Atlantic soil that was never affected by the phylloxera epidemic that wiped out vines across Europe. The tasting is guided by a sommelier who explains the unique terroir. You will not have tried wines like this before.
Is lunch included?
Lunch is not included. You'll have approximately 1.5 hours of free time in Cascais where there are excellent options at all price points — seafood restaurants, beach cafés, and local tascas. Your guide will happily recommend their favourites.
Can I book this as a private tour?
Yes — every tour is available as a fully private experience for your group, whether it's a couple, a family, or a corporate group. Message us on WhatsApp to discuss dates and private pricing.
What is the cancellation policy?
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the tour start time. We're flexible in genuine circumstances — just message us on WhatsApp and we'll sort it out. No forms, no fuss.
